Our Roots are Here.

We have been your neighbors for generations, and we take our responsibility to our community very seriously. That’s why we built Potlikker Farm.

Only by growing our favorite ingredients right here at our own sustainable farm can we be absolutely assured that nothing but the freshest, healthiest seasonal flavors ever reach your table. This is our level of commitment to you.

A SEED WAS PLANTED

In 2018, Georgia Sea Grill owner, Zack Gowen, had just finished reading The Potlikker Papers: A Food History of the Modern South by John T. Edge. Just one week later, in a moment of serendipity, Zack came across a 6.5-acre former farm for sale on Blythe Island. And the street address? “Potlikker’s Place.” From this very moment, the seed of an idea had been planted and with the help of friend and Master Cultivator, Sam McPherson, it grew into a thriving farm once again.

Sam was inspired by summers spent working in his great grandfather’s garden in Nashville, Georgia. Bringing that inspiration to his own process, Sam perfected his blend of proven old-school farming traditions and modern techniques, and honed his skills through an organic produce cooperative that he and his wife, April, built together. The success of his produce gained the attention of Zack and from there, the Potlikker Farm idea blossomed.

The young farm is currently providing Georgia Sea Grill Executive Chef Tim Lensch with local produce to create Sea Grill's signature fresh flavors. But the dream for the future of Potlikker Farm is much more ambitious. Zack hopes to soon be able to support the wellness of the entire community by offering a greater variety of local, clean, sustainable food to the public, donating fresh produce to area schools, and to be involved with other community-supported agricultural ventures in supplying an underserved market.
